Rare U. S. House of Representatives double / partner's desk, designed by Thomas Walter (architect of the Capitol Building) and installed for the opening of the current chamber in 1857, manufactured by Doe, Hazelton & Co. of Boston (retains original printed label). This was reportedly the Sergeant at Arms desk from 1857-1873. The present example was gifted to Rep. Nehemiah G. The desk was then purchased by the present consignor's grandparents in New Hampshire in the 1920's. Excellent untouched condition. Completely fresh to the market.
